Opening our home as a Haven of Hope to Stephen Psalm 36: 7 “How precious is Thy lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Thy wings.” God has continued developing my passion and dream to care for babies born with HIV/AIDS which He set in my heart during my first trip to Uganda in 2000. Eight years later it is becoming a reality. Through a number of devastating circumstances babies like Stephen (right) are abandoned before they are even given the chance to live. It is often believed that these babies have no hope to survive making it pointless to waste time, effort and money on them. We have learned there is a huge need for
individuals and families to bring these babies into
their homes to give them the love and care they
desperately need to live and thrive.
There are now cases of babies born with HIV who are thriving in their 20’s because they received proper treatment and the love they needed. Unfortunately, these cases are rare. We desire for our own home to be a Haven of Hope for some of these babies; a place where refuge can be taken in the shadow of God’s wings. We yearn for them to thrive physically and to grow up knowing the love of Jesus and the love of a family dedicated to Jesus. Another hope we have is for other Ugandan families to be inspired to welcome babies into their homes as well, impacting lives one by one. On April 18th only a month after returning to Uganda, we welcomed our first abandoned baby into our home and family. We have named him Stephen Twinomujuni Kehn. A baby with these special needs will require additional finances and supplies for our family.
